Alcatraz - Escape the Rock
Story
You have heard the stories, you’ve seen the movies, you know the infamous inmates, but now it’s my turn to make history and Escape from Alcatraz.
I will attempt the challenge which only one Alcatraz prisoner – John Paul Scott – successfully completed. The morning after his escape, he was discovered on the rocks near Fort Point. He was taken to an Army hospital in the Presidio, where he was treated for shock and hypothermia before ultimately being returned to the island prison. The Anglin Brothers and Frank Lee Morris also made it off the island, but were never seen again. Their fate remains unknown. Be prepared for the experience of a lifetime!
The Race: A tourist ferry will take us out to “The Rock” where we will jump into the cold waters (14 degrees) and battle the cold currents and strong tides to make the 2.5km swim to the shores of San Francisco. From here it’s 11km run to the base of the Golden Gate Bridge and back to the finish line.
I am aiming to raise money for Surf Life Saving NSW and I would welcome any contribution, great or small, that you could make!

Surf Life Saving NSW
Your donation can help save lives on our coastline TODAY! Your support goes directly towards coastal safety education, rescue and life saving equipment as well as training and development programs for our 76,000 dedicated volunteers across 129 clubs in NSW. The training Patrick Jacob (an off duty Central Coast Lifesaver) received, kicked in when he received a frantic call from his neighbour alerting him of an emergency unfolding at nearby North Entrance Beach whilst working from home. Patrick was able to act immediately and rushed into rough water conditions to rescue a 14-year-old boy who had been swept out to sea in a rip and was struggling to keep his head above water. With the vital training Patrick received from his surf lifesaving club, he was able to save this young boy and return him safely to his mother.
Throughout the 2022/23 season, over 3,500 Australians were rescued from similar, potentially fatal situations along the NSW coastline we all share and love. Your support is vital to ensuring we remain equipped and ready to save lives this summer and ensure the safety of the 7.4 million people who visit the beach each year.
